Gino & Marilena are both teachers. Gino tends the property and is on hand during the day to assist ghests. He cultivates the grapes and sells them to local wine makers. The hosts’ naturally informal style of hospitality make ghests feeling so at home that you can’t resist assisting as Marilena works wonders in the kitchen. Daily cooking lessons may be arranged as well as courses of Italian language, history and culture.
There are a number of good reasons to stay at "Due gelsi" but perhaps the food should be at the top of the list. Marilena is an excellent cook and produces authentic, tasty Italian dishes using local ingredients. Dinners are usually three coures with wine ( €20 per person ). There is excellent pasta or Ginos home made pizza’s to start with followed by meat or fish and always fresh fruit for dessert. Breakfasts often feature one of Marilena’s special home made cakes that you can have with a range of jams made using fruit from the garden.(The fig preserve and the rase petal jam are especially good)
Children of all ages are welcomed warmly at "Due Gelsi" and Gino even lays on tractor rides for them! There are a few outdoor toys in a shady area children can play with, or they might just want to collect pine cones, pick up fruit from the orchards or go around smelling all the herbes in the garden or just play with the kittens. Cots and high chairs are available.
Although the house has a country setting you are able to see the sea and the mountains from the breakfast terrace. The beauty of Abruzzo is the ease with which you can access both the mountains and the coast. Gino is very knowledgeable about the area and depending on your interests will help you devise interesting and full itineraries for your visit. The nearest airport is Pescara, about half an hours drive away.
